This work, LAurora ingannata (The Deceived Aurora), is a record of an ambitious endeavor by composer Girolamo Giacobi and poet Count Ridolfo Campeggi. This music was originally written as an intermedio (interlude) to be inserted between acts of the pastoral play Filarmindo, which premiered in 1605. However, Giacobbi refused to let it remain merely disposable music. When he published it in 1608, he gave it the unique genre name Dramaodia (from drama and odia, meaning song) and presented the interlude music to the world as a standalone musical work.
