Extra Stars is the solo debut album by Gregory Yurman, a multi-instrumentalist and producer based in LA.It is an album that further refines the sense of rhythmic ambient cultivated through his duo with Meg Duffy, collaborations with Josh Johnson and Sam Wilks, and his work with the improvisational trance jazz unit SML. Fourteen short pieces flow together, with accidental syntheses and melodic phrases intersecting organically. While the percussion is restrained, the rhythmic drive is clear, and an idyllic beauty coexists with a sense of intricate harmony. Unlike ambient music, which tends to focus on atmosphere, this is a quiet electronic music work with depth and structure.
