This is a double reed bassoon, but this disc focuses on the appeal of the contrabassoon, a lower-pitched instrument, as a solo instrument. Hans Agreda, currently the solo contrabassoonist of the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, was born in Venezuela in 1981. After studying in his native Venezuela, he moved to Germany to study with RCO virtuosi Gustavo Nunez and Klaus Thunemann. He has participated in the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra and is currently a contrabassoon specialist who has been invited to play with the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian State Opera, WDR Symphony Orchestra, and others.
