The five concertos written for the lira organizzataa small organ similar to the hurdy-gurdy (in which a disc is turned by hand to create friction, and the pitch is adjusted using the keyboard)are now almost always performed with the solo part replaced by other instruments, as this instrument has fallen into obscurity. On this album, the pieces are performed on the flute, recorder, and oboe; however, this in no way detracts from the original character of the compositionsin fact, it would be no exaggeration to say that it lends them a new charm.
