Once you experience the thrilling musical tension in the Sonata for Two Violins featured here, it will be impossible to escape Ysaes spell. This sonata was written in 1915 for Queen Elisabeth of Belgium (who had taken violin lessons from Ysae), and while it is unclear whether it was ever actually performed, it possesses a truly romantic resonance. The string trio, written in 1927, was premiered posthumously. Although it is a lesser-known work that is rarely performed, it is a captivating piece with a certain Debussy-like quality.
