Puccinis (18561924) final work, *Turandot*, explores timeless forms of love. It is a masterpiece that takes the universal themes of love, death, fear, and power as its central motifs and enriches them with beautiful melodies. Heavily incorporating the Orientalist trends popular at the time, the opera features the contrast between the two heroinesTurandot, who wields overwhelming power, and the delicate Liualong with Prince Calaf, who is torn by the mystery he must solve. These three characters, along with the many people surrounding them, blend seamlessly to build a magnificent climax. Although Puccini passed away just before the opera was completed, his vision was carried forward by composer Franco Alfano, who is also known for crafting a magnificent final scene.
