Karajan was ahead of his time in foreseeing the advent of the film era and produced works that would become the foundation of today’s music videos. Among his works, his collaboration with French film director Henri-Georges Clouzot, whose unique camera work and concepts have had a great influence on later generations, was the first of their joint productions. The first of these collaborations was Schumann’s Symphony No. 4. From the late 1940s to the mid-1950s, Karajan and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra were a famous duo known for a series of concerts known today as the “Karajan Concerts,” but after that they rarely appeared on the podium, and the only official recording of the two orchestras together was the Tchaikovsky with Richter.
