Clear Harmonies and Masterful CounterpointHomilius, a pupil of J.S. Bach who was active primarily in Dresden as a talented organist, was also highly regarded as a composer of church music. Although the Rheinische Kantorei and Hermann Max recorded several of Homiliuss motets about 30 years ago, these works had fallen into complete obscurity, leading to this reissue. The clear harmonies and judiciously employed counterpoint lend the music a refined charm distinct from that of Bachs works.
