C.P.E. Bach (16811767), born as the second son of J.S. Bach, is known not so much for the influence of his father as for inheriting the musical style of Telemanna friend of his fathers who also served as his godfatherand ultimately for laying the foundations of Classical music. This recording captures the 2014 22nd Magdeburg Telemann Festival, where an intriguing concert was held to explore the similarities and distinctiveness of the works by Telemann and C.P.E. Bachwho was closely associated with Telemannin commemoration of the 300th anniversary of C.P.E. Bachs birth. The cantatas from Telemanns later years, brimming with his characteristic dignity and composure, are magnificent, as are the cantatas by C.P.E. Bach, who followed in his footsteps.
