There are three recordings of Fate made in 1954, the year of Furtwnglers death, but this version, recorded at the Musikverein, is a cut above the rest. Compared to the dramatic live performances from during the war, this recording proceeds at a slightly more steady tempo throughout, yet it is crafted with great musicality, carefully balancing the sound and clearly highlighting the roles of each individual instrument. The original recording must have been of high quality as well. The sound is firmly captured, and it is a pleasure to be able to enjoy it in such high fidelity. Its a shame I cant simply say its good across the board, as everyones perception differs, but the sound has a natural richnessits dense without any hollow midrangeand you can clearly hear how each note explodes with intense energy.The coupling track, Unfinished Symphony, is the same performance as the one we previousl
