Lord Burnes (Sir Burnes), a British composer, novelist, and painter. His real name was Gerald Hugh Tierwitt-Wilson, and he was the 14th Baron of the distinguished Burnes family. After studying at Eton College and inheriting his title, he worked as a diplomat. Drawing on the experiences he gained while traveling through Europe, and with advice and encouragement from Stravinsky, he taught himself composition and demonstrated his talent as a musician, primarily in the field of ballet music.This album features art songs and piano pieces. It includes witty art songs such as the Three German-Style Songs set to poems by Heine, as well as a piano piece based on Burners own poem Lepoisson dor (The Golden Fish), which he dedicated to Stravinsky, and Three Little Funeral Marches, which vividly capture Burners sharp perspective on life.
