The Best! Rashkovsky takes on the famous piano music of his native Russia. Ilya Rashkovsky was born in 1984 and won the 8th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2012. He has previously recorded an album of Chopin and other works, but here comes his long-awaited collection of Russian piano works. The main work is Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition. The performance is surprisingly robust and strong, which is hard to imagine from the blonde, aristocratic appearance of his teacher, Klinev. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Sonata No. 2, another difficult piece, was also performed with high voltage. Tchaikovsky’s “Romance” and Rachmaninoff’s “Elegy,” the lyrics of the two composers’ youth, are sung with unique intensity.
