While the collection of pieces for male voices included here is well known, his works for female voices are largely unknown. Yet Schubert composed many highly ambitious works for such female ensembles. The collection is packed with a wide variety of songs, ranging from pieces based on hymns to songs celebrating the birthdays of the female students he taught. The accompanying piano parts are all skillfully written, making this a disc brimming with the joys of listening to Schubert.
