Celebrating the 10th anniversary of her concert debut in Japan, Irina Medjieva’s latest recording is a perfect example of the richness of her activities over the past few years. This album, a combination of Debussy and Mtunnels, is a piece with the aroma of late 19th and early 20th century France and Russia. The main work on the album, Metonel’s “Forgotten Chord” Op. 38 (8 pieces), is a large work clocking in at about 40 minutes, but the nostalgia, delicate poetic sentiment, and imaginative interpretation that are characteristic of Russian music are truly the sole domain of the Metonel performance specialists. Also interesting is the first recording of the “Bergamasque Suite.
