A live recording of Irina Medjieva’s 2011 concert at the Kyoto Concert Hall (small), which includes her major work “Kreisleriana,” a record of 2011 by an artist who has continued to evolve. The program includes works by three of her favorite composers, Schumann, Chopin, and Mtnr. The imposing structure of the large-scale works such as “Kreisleriana” and “Boat Song,” the poetic delivery of “Arabesque” and “Nocturne,” and the fresh and colorful Russian sentiment of Metonel’s works make this a very enjoyable program. The encore performance of “Evening Song” is also outstanding. All of the songs are from the repertoire of existing session recordings, but the drive and enthusiasm of the live performance is a “different version” that fans will appreciate. Please enjoy the supple and strong pianism spun by a pure sensibility.
