Jack DeJohnette’s exhilarating live album, recorded in Chicago in August 2013 with his old friends.In 1962, DeJohnette, Roscoe Mitchell, and Henry Threadgill were classmates at Wilson Junior College in Chicago’s South Side and frequent jam session partners. Soon after, Jack joined Muhal Richard Abrams’ Experimental Band, with Roscoe and Henry quickly following him. By the time Abrams founded the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) in 1965, all three were deeply involved from the start. They performed concerts under the AACM umbrella and participated in each other’s projects. This album captures a special concert held in August 2013 at Chicago’s Millennium Park, where Jack reunited the trio and added bassist/cellist Larry Gray.Enjoy original compositions by Roscoe, Henry, Muhal, and Jack, plus group improvisations.
