This is a collection of works by guitar music composers who were active mainly in 19th century Vienna. In Vienna during this period, the guitar was often used as a colorful addition to chamber music rather than as a solo instrument, and was never considered a sophisticated instrument. However, the guitar’s appeal was gradually enhanced by Giuliani, who was born in Italy and came to Vienna to write wonderful solo pieces, and by Sol, who was active in Spain. In this album, the virtuoso guitarist Akers plays a guitar made in the same period, accompanied by a fortepiano made by “Konrad Graf” in 1826. The mellow tone of the guitar is very pleasing to the ear. Naxos Japan
