A collection of works by Vijay Iyer, a top-notch jazz pianist! Vijay Iyer is a mid-career composer born in New York City as an Indian-Tamil immigrant. He is well known not only as a composer of contemporary music but also as a jazz pianist, and has released many albums on the ECM label. This album contains his recent orchestral works. Asunder” is a dynamic music that makes the most of the orchestral effect and is somewhat reminiscent of John Adams in its minimalist style. The six-movement violin concerto “Trouble” is an eclectic mix of styles in each movement, including a Philip Glass-like movement, a jazz-like movement, a Berg-like movement, and an atonal Gendai Ongaku-like movement, making this music a “riot” that will literally scratch the listener’s heart. American Grammy Award-winning violinist Jennifer Ko gives a fine performance.
