Description:

Handel: The Triumph of Time and TruthIf youve become a fan of Handel through famous works like *Messiah*, youll surely want to hear as many of his other oratorios as possible. But Naxos solves the problem of scarce recordings and high prices. This philosophical work is rarely performed, and this recording features the second draft (1737)sung in Italianwhich was buried after its premiere, sandwiched between the 1707 first draft and the 1757 third draft (with English lyrics), to the point that not even a complete score existed. Once youre moved by the overture and the magnificent opening chorus, youre sure to want to listen to all three discs from start to finish. In addition to the superb choral performances, there are plenty of highlights, such as the technical virtuosity of the aria on Disc 1, Track 8, and the dreamlike atmosphere created by the carillon on Disc 2, Track 8.
