A collection of works inspired by Andersens well-known fairy tale, The Little Match Girl. It begins with First Snow by Danish composer Bo Holtenwho is also active as a conductorfollowed by a German-language reading of the original The Little Match Girl. The centerpiece of the album is The Passion of the Little Match Girl by composer David Lang, known as the founder of the ensemble Bang on a Can. This work, which draws a parallel between the suffering of a poor girl and the Passion of Christ, was awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize.
