Description:

The British poet Lawrence Binyon (18691943). He later became the Curator of Asian Art at the British Museum and was recognized as an authority on Asian art, including Japanese art. However, at the outbreak of World War I, several of his poems written in mourning for the war became widely known; among them, Song of Remembrance has been celebrated not only in Britain but as a tribute to all victims of war. Elgar was also deeply inspired by Binyons poetry and composed the three-part The Spirit of England and With Proud Thanks. From then on, Elgar and Binyon maintained a close relationship; the incidental music for *King Arthur*, composed in 1923, was also a collaboration with Binyon, and it is well known that Binyon wrote new lyrics for the *Carillon*, composed in 1914 (This recording is the original version based on Kamaltss poem.)Naxos Japan
