Johnny Lee, brother of Bob Wills of the Texas Playboys, played tenor banjo for Bob, but when Bob disbanded the band in 1940 to meet the demand for live appearances across the country, Bob encouraged Johnny to form his own group, Johnny Bob encouraged Johnny to form his own group, Johnny Lee Wills and All the Boys. This compilation is an interesting collection of his recordings on Decca, Bullet Records, and RCA Victor, including two big hits, “Rag Mop” and “Milk Cow Blues,” which exemplify the essence of Western Swing and demonstrate his qualities as an excellent bandleader.
