Jonathan Rautio, a Finnish saxophonist, is a leading figure among the new generation of Nordic classical wind instrument players. He studied under Pekka Savijoki at the Sibelius Academy and under Nicolas Prost and Christian Virtue in Paris; in 2010, he became the first saxophonist from the Nordic region to graduate from Claude Durangles class at the Paris Conservatory. The program begins with Debussys famous Rhapsody, followed by a sonata by his compatriot, the composer Triago, and a divertimento by the Finnish-American composer Charles Wallinen (who, in 1970, became the youngest recipient of the Pulitzer Prize at the time), Scenes of Provence, written by French composer Paulette Maurice for Marcel Mule, and an alto saxophone arrangement of Mozarts Kegelstadt Triohe will delight listeners with an intriguing program that showcases the breadth of his repertoire.Tokyo M-Plus
