Hordi Mass seventh volume of piano works by Turina (18821949) opens with the delightfully cheerful Travel Album. While this early work has a distinctly Spanish sound, it also possesses a soft resonance that evokes the influence of Debussy. Above all, they boast a refreshing quality, as if a fragrant breeze were blowing through them. Gibraltar features a melody that sounds familiar, which is another interesting aspect. The pieces that follow are all expressive, as if each had captured a snapshot of a travel scene. Reminiscences depicts the landscape of Catalonia, while Postcards portrays the Basque Country.
