Pianist Josef Brouva was born in Brno in 1943. He studied at the music school in his hometown of Napajedla. There, his first teacher, Vclav Ranka, recognized his talent and took great care to nurture it. Brouva made his debut at the age of 13, and his talent was recognized both in the Czech Republic and abroad. However, after suffering an accident in 1971 that forced him to take a one-year hiatus from performing, he reevaluated his artistic aspirations and defected to Luxembourg the following year. Just as he was beginning to gain worldwide recognition through numerous recordings, tragedy struck him once again. In March 1996, he slipped and fell on an icy road, injuring his left hand. Although he initially decided to retire, his passion for music proved unbreakable, and after repeated surgeries and rehabilitation, he made his comeback in 2009.
