It brings together works dedicated to, or otherwise connected with, Pisendel, the finest violinist of his day, Vivaldi’s contemporary and a leading figure in Dresden.Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755) was admired by Quantz and Hasse and received dedications from Albinoni and Telemann; some have even argued that J.S. Bach may have written the Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin with him in mind. In 1716-17, while assistant leader of the Dresden court orchestra (he became its director of music in 1728), he travelled with the royal party to Venice, where he became Vivaldi’s pupil and friend. He brought a large quantity of music back to Dresden, copies and autograph manuscripts amon
