Hermann Grdner was a Romantic composer born in Germany who was active primarily in Vienna.Although he was highly respected as a composer and teacher during his lifetime, he was gradually forgotten after his death, and today his works are rarely heard. Although his two violin concertos are among his masterpieces, this album marks their world premiere recording. Throughout these workswith their rigid, German-style structure and abundance of beautiful melodiesone can certainly sense the influence of Brahms and Sibelius; the folk-song-like melodies heard in the final movement of the First Concerto and the resolute theme in the first movement of the Second Concertoreminiscent of Beethovens worksreveal Grdners unique and assured compositional technique.
