This historic collection of New York recordings by the great British contralto Kathleen Ferrier, with her deep, rich voice, includes Mahler’s “Earth Songs” conducted by Walter in 1948, her only live recording at Carnegie Hall, and a 1950 recording of J. S. Bach’s Three Romances with piano accompaniment at Town Hall, also in New York City. (Ferrier sadly passed away at the young age of 41 due to illness three years after this Bach recording.) The live recordings were made by the Carnegie Hall Recording Company from the 1940s to the 1960s, and were recorded in a way to preserve the sound quality as close as possible to the original recordings, without removing unnecessary noise.
