Brahms, a native of Hamburg in northern Germany, and Mandychevsky, who grew up in the multilingual environment of the Bukovina regionthen part of the Austrian Empire and now spanning Ukraine and Romaniamet in Vienna in the late 1870s and formed a deep friendship. While Mandychevsky is best known today as a musicologist and editor, this album features 12 of the 18 songs from his *Romanian Songs*including world premiere recordingsperformed in the original Romanian, allowing listene
