Antoniou is one of the most important composers in contemporary Greece, and his contribution to the international music scene is immeasurable, as he is Professor Emeritus at Boston University as of 2018 and has served as president of the Union of Greek Composers for 25 long years. As a composer, Antoniou likes to take subjects inspired by ancient Greek drama and add Greek folk music elements to create dramatic plots. AQUARELLE” and “SYLLABLES” have a mysterious atmosphere reminiscent of Satie’s Gymnopedies.
