Description:

A collection of works by the Greek composer Yannis Papaioannou (19101989). Although he lived primarily in Athens, he created a unique body of work by incorporating his experiences studying in Parisparticularly his interactions with Honegger and encounters with other Parisian musiciansinto his own musical practice and weaving them into Greek music. Indeed, his preludes, for example, are somewhat ornate Satie-esque pieces, and no one would doubt if they were described as works in the French Impressionist style. He continued to write Impressionist works until around 1944, after which he devoted himself entirely to exploring Greek music. However, around 1953, he shifted to an experimental style and began writing 12-tone music reminiscent of Schoenberg and Webern.
