This album brings together piano works composed around the same time by three genius composers born in 1810: Burgmller, Schunke, and Schumann. Norbert Burgmller (18101836), the younger brother of Johann Burgmllerfamous for his etudesand Ludwig Schnke (18101834), a close friend of Schumanns, were both prodigies who died young, and Schumann lamented their untimely deaths. Regarding Burgmllers *Rhapsody*, Schumann remarked, It has the same effect on me as I first felt when reading Goethes *The Erl-King*, It is like a vision from another world, and he also praised Schunks Grand Sonata (dedicated to Schumann) highly, dedicating his *Toccata* to Schunk in return.
