The 18th-century Spanish composer Antonio Soler (also known as Padre Soler) lived as a clergyman for over 30 years at the Royal Monastery of El Escorial near Madrid. While there, he transcribed numerous works by Scarlattia senior figure in the Spanish royal courtand he also composed his own music, leaving his mark on history with a vast body of work, including numerous sonatas for keyboard instruments. However, it is less well known that, in addition to his active role as an organist, he also served as the chapel master and composed many religious choral works. The two sets of works for choir and instrumental ensemble, written in Latin and included here, are all world premiere recordings.
