Description:

Charles Lecoq, a French operetta composer active at the end of the 19th century, had his greatest hit with “Madame Ango’s Daughter” in Brussels in 1872. In February 1873, it was performed in Paris to great acclaim, and in 1916 it became part of the Asakusa Opera repertoire as “Mademango’s Daughter. The story is a love affair between the orphan Claret and the wealthy Langier, the singer Pitou and the barber Pomponnet, and the banker Lalivodiere, and involves the rivalry between the royalists and the republicans.
