Ive compiled a list of Stokowskis Shostakovich recordings. The Fifth Symphony marks its Western premiere; the Sixth is the worlds first recording; and the Seventh is a live performance recorded after Stokowski lost a fierce battle with Toscanini over the American premiere. All three are presented in Stokowskis signature style, completely free of the complexity often associated with modern music. The Sixth Symphony, in particular, is a masterful and stylish performance.
