The title, City of the Big Shoulders, refers to the city of Chicago. This nickname became widely known after Carl Sandburg, an American poet best known for his biography of Abraham Lincoln, referred to Chicago as the City of the Big Shoulders (a city of broad-shouldered men, or a city of workers) in his 1916 collection *Poems of Chicago*. This album features piano trios by two Chicago-born composers active in the 20th century. You can enjoy these cheerful works born from the hustle and bustle of the city.
