A Long-Lost Early Opera Revived During the Haydn YearHaydn is best known for his instrumental works, such as symphonies and string quartets, but he actually composed 21 operas. His very earliest opera, *Achide*, which premiered at Prince Esterhzys wedding in 1763, has become a lost work, with only fragments surviving today. Based on the story of Arces and Galatea from Ovids *Metamorphoses*, it captivates with the bright and lively music so characteristic of Haydn. Conductor Manfred Huss, who has devoted his life to Haydn, reconstructed the work after extensive research, bringing it back to life as a 64-minute piece.
