The latest recording by the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Marc Albrecht, features Schoenbergs arrangement of Brahmss Piano Quartet No. 1 and Schoenbergs incidental music for a film scene. Schnberg arranged the Piano Quartet for orchestra in 1937, after he had emigrated to the United States, and it was premiered on May 7, 1938, by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Klemperer. Schnbergs arrangement, which captures the very essence of this work, leaves one unable to help but feel his deep respect for Brahms.
