This is the fifth release in the #bruckner2024 projectan initiative led by the CAPRICCIO label and the International Bruckner Society to record all versions of Bruckners symphonies by 2024, the 200th anniversary of his birth. This release features the first draft (composed in 1873) of Bruckners Symphony No. 3, which has the greatest number of different versions among his symphonies. The score is based on the Novak edition.Among the various drafts of the Third Symphony, the first draft is the longest, and it features the most motifs borrowed from Wagners operasthe very source of the works Wagner nicknamegiving it a unique charm. Howeverand this may seem hard to believe todaythe Vienna Philharmonic, after rehearsing for the premiere, declared the work unplayable, and the premiere never took place. Although the first draft is sometimes considered disorganized or compositionally underdeveloped c
