Bruckner continued to revise his symphonies long after completing them, with the result that several manuscript versions and printed editions exist of the same work – and telling them apart is one of the great pleasures for the committed Brucknerian.This project sets out to record all nineteen versions of Bruckner’s eleven symphonies by 2024, the bicentenary of the composer’s birth. It begins with the Sixth, the one symphony that exists in a single version, and uses the most recent (as yet unpublished) critical edition – a point of considerable interest.Markus Poschner, chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchester Linz since 2017, draws a performance marked by a weighty, richly grounded bass-string sound. In the first movement, listen for the contrast between the tautly shaped first subject and the softness of the second. The second movement is limpid and grave, the oboe melody of the first sub
