The Zurich Opera House and Tatjana Gyurbaka’s production of Massenet’s “Werther” will present Flores’ masterful rendition of the anguish of a young man in unrequited love. Werther, a young poet living in late 18th century Germany, is in love with Charlotte, the daughter of a high priest. Charlotte has a fiance named Albert, but Werther is unable to give up on Charlotte. Albert warns Welter and attempts to reconcile him with Charlotte’s sister Sophie, but… The title role is played by the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flores. Charlotte is played by British mezzo Anna Stefani. Flores gives a wonderful performance of the anguish of a young man in unrequited love. In addition, Flores and Stephanie’s poignant love duet is a must-hear.
