Giovanni Zugambarti was born to an Italian father and an English mother. After receiving his early musical education in Trevi, he moved to Rome in 1860. There, he studied under Franz Liszt, who was living in Rome at the time, and formed a close friendship with him, drawing great inspiration from his mentor. He is also known for having been exposed to Wagners music, which led him to introduce German music into the Italian musical scenethen dominated by bel canto operaand for his efforts to popularize orchestral music.This album features two works: the brilliant Piano Concerto, which showcases Zuganvatis virtuosity as an accomplished pianist, and the Sinfonia Festiva, a short piece with a dance-like character reminiscent of Beethovens Seventh Symphony.
