With the exception of Morlacchi and Wolf-Ferrariboth known for their operasthis album features songs by piano virtuosos such as Zugambarti, Martucci, and Casella, as well as Respighi, a master of orchestration, sung by Matteo Mencarelli, born in 1998, performs these songs. While the theatrical melodrama style dominated 19th-century Italy, these composers attempted to break away from it, and their efforts to connect with the German lieder tradition are evident.
