Pachelbel, a German Baroque composer best known for Pachelbels Canon, was an accomplished keyboard player who composed numerous works, primarily for keyboard instruments. Born in Nuremberg, southern Germany, he was influenced by Italian and southern German composers such as Frescobaldi and Froberger, and even in works with intricate multiple voicessuch as fugueshe clearly delineates the melodies. His style stands in stark contrast to the bold and imaginative North German school, epitomized by Buxtehude. Both Pachelbel and Buxtehude enjoyed great popularity in their day, were held up as models by fellow musicians, and left a lasting influence on future generations.This album is the second volume in a series of Pachelbels organ works performed by Matthew Owens, who has served as Music Director of Belfast Cathedral since September 2019.
