Morton Feldman was a leading figure in the avant-garde movement of 20th-century American contemporary music, alongside John Cage, Christian Wolff, and Earl Brown. His encounter with John Cagewith whom he became close friends particularly from the 1950s onwardproved decisive; they inspired one another, moving away from traditional compositional techniques and giving rise to a global movement through the use of graphic scores and various new techniques. Their sound could be described as nothing less than meditative musical magic originating in New York. The track Coptic Light is a work from Feldmans very late period, inspired by textiles from the Coptic Christian tradition that he encountered at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
