Around 1740, he studied violin and composition with Tartini in Padua; after a stay in Amsterdam, he moved to London in 1751 and lived in Cambridge from 1762 until his death in 1799.The musical trend in 18th-century London was Italian music, with Corelli at its pinnacle; the reason the concerto gross by Geminiani and Handel were so popular there was that they were works that carried on Corellis style.
