Miriam Soloviev (1921-2004) is a violinist born in San Francisco, USA. As her name suggests, she is of Russian descent. She studied under the famous violin teacher Louis Persinger and achieved success as a teenager. After World War II, he entered Europe in earnest, but in the 1950s he took a teaching position in Paris and curtailed his performance activities. His commercial recordings are virtually nonexistent, with the exception of a solo violin performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scherzade” (recorded by Vanguard, conducted by Mario Rossi). The recordings on this CD were made by the North German Radio in 1960 and 1961. Soloviev has a graceful and beautiful tone with a rather thin line, and his use of weak notes is skillful and full of charm. Both recordings, although in mono, are not bad. Tobu Land System
