Three and a half years after her previous album catapulted her to stardom in the indie scene, Mitsuki releases her highly anticipated sixth album, *LaurelHell*. After her previous album, *BetheCowboy* (2018)which won Album of the Year awards from Pitchfork and otherspropelled her from cult status to stardom, she wore herself out both physically and mentally on tour, and the pitfalls that came with increased fame took a toll on both her mental health and her music. Realizing that if I kept going like this, my senses would become completely numb, she found she needed love songs that depicted real human relationships and encouraged forgivenessboth of others and of herself. Many of the songs were written before 2018, and with mixing completed in May 2021, this was her longest production period to date, culminating in the midst of a world in upheaval.
