Born in Spain in 1984, Montesinos is still quite young, yet he showed precocious talent by giving his first solo recital at the age of 12. His talent has continued to blossom steadily, as evidenced by his victory at the Tarrega International Guitar Competition. His recital album for Naxos, starting with the Aguado piece that opens the album, features a magnificent musical expression steeped in deep sorrow. Rather than needlessly flaunting his technique, his attitude of serving the music is deeply moving. He demonstrates exceptional aptitude, particularly in Trregas melancholic miniatures. What Llobet calls the Theme of Sol is, in fact, the melody of the famous Folia, which the composer has crafted into a technically demanding set of variations.
