Description:

The score of “Khovanshchina,” a profound opera based on Russian history of the late 17th century, is usually performed with additions by Rimsky-Korsakov, Shostakovich, and Stravinsky, as Mussorgsky (1839-1881) passed away before completing his work. Abbado, a great admirer of Mussorgsky, uses the Shostakovich and Stravinsky arrangements in his film adaptation of this work to present a convincing story.
